This story was conceived for a competition for Bloop Animation's Creators Club . The goal was to write 150-300 words that started out with certain choices, I picked the following one:
Title: Time's Up.
First Sen.: Getting out of jail was just the beginning.
Getting out of jail was just the beginning. I had a whole plan ahead of me to get on my feet again. Of course, most of that plan was based on luck, but that's just how life worked, right? Some were luckier than others, and it was darn time it was my turn to be lucky.
At least I had finally decided I wanted out of jail, question was, how? I barely had enough money to support myself let alone bribe those who kept me behind bars. They had everything I could have ever wanted, money to spare, expensive houses, even railroads. Ludicrous really. Sigh. Time was passing, I had to decide soon. I could feel my cheeks reddening because my heart was pumping harder. I'd like to think it was an attempt to provide more oxygen to my brilliant mind and not because I was scared to make a decision. No wonder I had ended in jail, I sucked at making decisions.
"So what's it gonna be?"
Oh to heck with it, as they say, go big or go home.
"Fine Johnny, I'll give you my Mayfair state, but not the houses."
Sleek Johnny smiled, he'd won. I swallowed my pride and settled once I had freedom in my hands, that Get Out of Jail Free card. Finally, after 10 lost turns, I could play again. With the dice in my hands, the round edges pressing against my skin, I felt alive again, a free man. I had a new chance at life, I was going to make the most of it this time. So this is what it's like to be born again, I must confess, it feels great.
